Padma Bank chairman inaugurates 34th batch of Evening MBA at IBA

Staff Repoter :: There is no shortcut to success, chairman of Padma Bank Limited Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat said Thursday as he spoke at the orientation course of the Evening MBA at the prestigious Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Dhaka University.

Mr. Sarafat, who is also the chairman of the Trustee Board of Canadian University in Bangladesh, said “honesty, humility, hard work and helping attitude” are the four key ingredients for a successful career anywhere in the world.

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do,” Mr. Sarafat told the Evening MBA students at IBA.

“However, always plan ahead. In order to be successful, you need to be methodical and hardworking at the same time,” he said.

Sarafat urged the students to be truthful at any cost as it builds the foundation for a long-term success.

“Start telling truth to yourself, be honest to yourself and others. It is very hard and time consuming to gain people’s trust but everyone wants to be associated with trustworthy people,” he said.

Mr. Sarafat was the chief guest on the occasion. Mohammad Abdul Momen, the Director in-charge of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), also spoke as the president of the programme.

Coordinator of IBA’s Executive MBA programme Mr. Rezaul Kabir and senior faculty members of the institute were also present at the orientation ceremony.

Sarafat, who was a senior banker at the Standard Chartered Bank, also stressed the importance of humility in a successful career.

“What is the one thing, the more you spend, the more you earn? It’s “Respect”. Be humble and pay respect to others,” he said.

“You cannot learn everything that everyone knows but when you’re humble, people will share their knowledge with you. This will help you
make real-time, well-informed business decisions,” he added.

IBA is the leading business school of country having alumni in many of the world’s top business groups and multinational companies.
